So, You Think You Canít Dance?

Circles Enrichment is proud to present: Expressive Arts, Dance and Music workshop.
This activity is suitable specifically for dementia / memory care units.
Participants will have opportunities to increase their level of physical activity, social interactions and emotional involvement in artful, creative and joyful atmosphere.
∑ Enhancing social engagement, physical and psychological well-being.
∑ Providing opportunities for self-expression and playful/creative communication.
∑ Increasing body awareness, improving balance and coordination.
∑ Group activities - Learning some elements of various dance styles, such as Ballroom, Ballet, Latin, Folk, Circle dance and Hip Hop. Listening and making music together using percussion instruments. Occasionally singing along, talking and playing games.
∑ Rudolf Laban movement analysis - Using such categories as space, efforts, body-parts, time and shape, we provide full spectrum of motion and enhance the participant's movement repertoire, according to their resources.
∑ Mirroring, leader-follower, props games - We introduce various simple games for developing kinesthetic empathy, sense of bond in playful manner.
∑ Rhythmic activities, favorite songs - We use common rhythmical movement as unifying experience that creates non-verbal connection and sense of belonging.
∑ Relaxation and emotional regulation through breathing exercises - We bring more awareness to body through attention to breath that helps to cope with stress of everyday life and to feel more alive.
The facilitator, Ayana Spivak, holds MA degree in psychology with specialization in dance and movement psychotherapy. She has an extensive background working with people of wide range of ages and mental disorders.
